Advanced Port Scanner is a small, fast, robust and easy-to-use port scanner for Win32 platform. It uses a multithread technique, so on fast machines you can scan ports very fast. Also, it contains descriptions for common ports, and can perform scans on predefined port ranges.
Getting information about network devices; Easy access to resources found: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and shared folders; Wake-On-LAN and remote shutdown for the selected computers; Remote access to computers via RDP and Radmin; Running quick commands on a remote computer: ping, tracert, telnet and SSH.

"Must run and set as an XP compatability"

This still works as good as ever, but once installed you must right click on the program and change the compatabilty to XP under WIN7 or WIN8
ConsNo cons that I could find other then changing the compatibility to XP

ProsIt's hard to give any pros when I couldn't get the software to work at all.
ConsTried running multiple scans, and it crashed every time I tried. I never got it to scan anything at all.
SummaryCan't say whether it is incompatible with Windows 7, or what the deal is, but I couldn't make this software do anything. It would come up, I'd put in a port range to scan, and it would immediately crash after trying to start the scan. Not exactly easy to use either.

ConsDoesn't work -- at all.
SummaryTried to use it on my Windows 7 computer and it wouldn't locate a single device on my network. I then proceeded to download Advanced IP Scanner, which worked perfectly. Don't waste your time with this software.

ConsIt doesn't work (on any computer Vista x86/x64 or 7 x86/x64)

ConsCannot change configuration. If I try to change it crashes. Quick heal email protection notified me that this app is trying to send emails. Without quick heal I wouldnt have known

ConsConstantly crashes. Usually if you try a second scan of a full subnet. Often before you get the results of the first!

ProsSmall footprint, simple interface, easy to configure
ConsInterface is a bit clunky, e.g. tab stops not well laid out. Also sometimes results were not consistent on consecutive runs, or with different port ranges set (it missed some open ports sometimes).
SummaryNot bad but I prefer using nmap now which seems to be rock solid

ProsFor port ranges in the thousands, it works fine and works well
ConsWhen I tried to scan the full range (0-65535) it kept on crashing. I need to find another program that doesn't crash on me (Win 7 Pro, x32, no memory or processor overload)
